Q: What got you interested in CrossFit?
I was going to a regular gym consistently and had been for some time but just wasn’t seeing the results that I wanted. I was putting in a significant amount of work but had little to show for it. I started researching HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and ran across an article on CrossFit. I read several articles on Crossfit and was intrigued enough to see if there was anything in the immediate Tucker area. Early in 2012, I happened to stumble across a post where a guy was looking to open a box in the “Stone Mountain area” so I reached out to him directly. That guy ended up being Luke Davis. When Luke finally came into town,I went and met him over at the old building. I remember the first WOD I did like it was yesterday. 4 rounds of 5 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and then a 200 meter run around the building. By the time it was over, I was exhausted and throwing up but at the same time I was thrilled and knew I had found the program I was looking for.
Q: How long have you been at Crossfit Tucker?
I started in June of 2012. I was working out the day Crossfit Tucker opened for business. No equipment, no floor mats, no racks. Just people who were willing to put in the work to make themselves better. It’s fun to see how much the program and the community has grown.
Q: What class do you usually attend and why?
For the past 4 years I have attended the 6AM class until recently when Jeremy started offering the 5AM. By coming in early, I set myself up for success for the rest of the day. No last minute meetings or phone calls to interrupt the schedule. No excuses to not show up every morning. A big piece of why I attend the morning classes is because of the other members that attend. You find that folks that come to the 5AM and 6AM classes are committed to being better and they there are there because they want to put the work in. They are consistent and rarely miss a day. There is a degree of accountability that comes with attending those classes and you want to hold up your end of the bargain.
Q: What is your favorite movement / WOD so far in your CrossFit career?
I enjoy the long chipper style WOD’s. Both the physical and mental challenge of working through the movements knowing that each rep completed is one step closer to finishing. The longer the better!
Q:What is your favorite cheat meal?
I don’t cheat so I am not sure I have a “favorite”? (I said that with a straight face……)
